Dear Dr. Fantasy: episode 54, with Laura from Fantasy Awash
Looking forward to your discussion of Parable of Sower with your daughter, Philip. And I hope you continue with Parable of Talents. What Butler did in that is just mind blowing.
Thank you, Anitha! We ran out of time for the discussion, unfortunately, but I’ll be releasing a dedicated review on Thursday. All the best!
I really enjoy ur content
I’m so glad! Thank you for watching!
Good video btw. I really like ur explanation
Thank you so much! 🙏
English teachers/Professors reading and reacting to One Piece has been my favorite form of content recently. And I'm happy to have found another one Will be watching the rest of them to catch up and wait for more
I’m glad the video is enjoyable for you! Thank you for watching!
ONE PIECE is the best story ever told
I think you could make an excellent argument for that!
If you ever feel like diving into the anime once more, I'd recommend One Piece Movie 6: Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island. It's a standalone film that puts the strawhats in a super bizarre and stressful situation with beautiful art and animation done in a style not seen before or since in One Piece.
I hear great things about it! Sounds cool - I’ll check it out. Thank you for the recommendation!
Congrats on one year since publishing your book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Edan trilogy. I also have been meaning to read parable of the sower, and plan to read it soon based on your comments. Thanks for the video!
I’m so glad you enjoyed The Edan Trilogy! Also, I hope you’ll get a lot from Parable of the Sower. It’s not a big book, but it packs a powerful punch. All the best!
I think you should consider William S. Burroughs and his book "Naked Lunch" for this list. And also "Dhalgren" by Samuel R Delany.
Thank you for the recommendations - much appreciated!
G'day Phillip just giving a shout out for Nerdy Kathi as a DDF guest. Someone who can give you an older Australian reading experience. Plus she's just started Malazan
I just saw one of her videos the other day! I have guests lined up for the next few months, but I’ll write down her name. Cheers, Liam!
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy All good Phillip, you probably get a bajillion suggestions so no hurry. It'll give me time to start Malazan myself
Thank you. Read 6 of them. Will have to get busy on the rest.
I hope you’ll enjoy them!
I would love to support you, I’ll look into buying the books soon since that’s such a nice thing to offer and I’d love to support the channel Also I’m so happy how far you already are in one piece. That’s the reason I ever found your channel and I love the thoughts you have on the series. If you look back on the events you’ve seen since you mentioned it with how deep and serious one piece can be you’ll see just how dangerous and cruel many of the early arcs are/could have ended. Mostly one piece is so light hearted it cuts deep through the intensity to the point where some people disconnect from how dramatic one piece really is. Then when you really think about the events you just witnessed it makes you think. I was saving this detail for when you got through Ennies lobby and there will be plenty of times where I suggest to check out the anime. But I need to highlight this as a very special case. Nico robins English voice actor for her set of speeches are incredible and I would love for you to check it out episode 274 and 278. It really is one of the greatest moments in the one piece dub and honestly in general as a more emotional experience.
I think that’s a part of the anime I need to see. While reading the manga yesterday, I might have needed some tissues . . . All the best!
Wow i just lucked out on a 3$ paperback today, the first robin hobb read for me on Philip Chase recommendation, Serendipitous to get to read this trilogy too! Awesome
That’s another great deal! I hope you’ll enjoy Hobb’s books and, of course, The Edan Trilogy!
following this while reading the manga after ive caught up with the anime, very enjoyable to watch after i finnishing the arc
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos! Cheers!
You should try "Sakamoto Days"! It's my personal favorite, and it is described by many as "John Wick if he didn't lose his wife". It's very action-packed, and has lots of humorous scenes. I highly recommend it! Also, I loved hearing about what you think of One Piece. I'm currently on Enies Lobby (around episode 300) and there will be lots more action from then on. Enjoy the rest!
Thank you for the recommendation! I'm actually on Enies Lobby too -- right on the same chapter! I've released a few videos since this one on the various sagas. Cheers!
so something to note about eneru is that he is designed with inspiration of Raijin
Ohhh I have to watch you and the wonderful Brothers Gwynne and their overall thoughts on the brilliant EDAN TRILOGY! Best of luck on the sale, and congrats on the milestone 1 year pub date! PARABLE OF THE SOWER is definitely a book I want to get to! Looking forward to a dedicated review from you/maybe even with your daughter! That would be amazing! And SO excited to continue my PRINCE OF NOTHING journey, hopefully soon! Happy reading!
Thank you, PL! I'll be filming a dedicated review of Parable of the Sower soon, but I think you'll find it a powerful story. My very best to you for all your reads and for your writing as well!
Hey, would it be possible to put in the pictures of the manga panels a little bit lower on the screen? I want to pause the video to read them, but the title of the video gets in the way. Thanks, and these reviews are really good. It's cool to hear someone who actually knows a lot about fiction and storytelling give their take on one of my favorite stories.
I’ll try lowering them and see what it looks like. Thanks so much for watching!
Can't wait for the Ennie's Lobby arc review! This is where it starts getting REALLY good
I’m in the thick of it now - it’s incredible!
your average one piece fan's push to make other enjoy it convinces me we generally do love spreading joy
That is so true!
Princess Mononoke is GREAT! It has one of the most convincing secondary worlds I've ever experienced in a movie. Even in great cinematic examples like Lucas' Star Wars films or the Jackson LOTR trilogy, you're still kind of aware of them "workng at it." The rural landscapes and forests of Princess Mononoke felt effortless, like that world was truly there and already in place before the first frame of film was exposed on its first animation cel. It occasionally gets reshown at theaters. I highly recommend you and your daughter take in a big screen viewing if you have a chance for the emersive experience.
Seeing it on the big screen would be amazing! We just watched Nausicaä last night as a follow up. Loved it too! Cheers, Micah!
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy And Neil Gaiman did the english script adaptation for that, I believe. For some fantasy completely different from the same studio, I recommend The Cat Returns. It's something of an urban- portal fantasy and it's a delight. A lot lighter and whimsical compared to Mononoke (no one would ever accuse Princess Mononoke of being "whimsical" - LOL). The Cat Returns literally put a smile on my face.
I recently picked up the physicals, but I will pick up the kindle books for that price when I read in bed! Will be picking up the TBB edition too for sure.
Cheers, Will! I thank you for all the support, and I’m glad you’re able to pick up the ebooks on sale. Happy reading!
Just bought the trilogy from Amazon. Looking forward to binging. Thanks for doing what you do.
I deeply appreciate the support, Mich, and I wish you the best for the reading journey!
I've really been slept on the best fantasy recommendation on UA-cam. It's also kind of poetic that your One Piece review brought me here. Recommending fantasy books based on what the authors/books do best is such a genius idea! I’ve been binging your Top 10 Fantasy playlist. Thank you so much for these great recommendations!
I’m so glad you’ve found the lists helpful! Cheers!
The man in the top right, he looks like the actor who played as a demon in Supernatural! He played a great character!
That would be me! 😁 I’ll have to look up Supernatural!
Hah! A video just appeared on my home page: “Classical Composer evaluates the Grateful Dead” that dynamic reminded me of you with One Piece.😀
Ha ha! Sounds genius! 😁
Your analysis of Foxy is very thoughtful but I have to say the reason I hate Foxy is indeed simply because he is annoying.
Ha ha! Fair enough!
That second cover with the breaks in the glass made to look like lighting is just sexy
Thank you! There’s also a “stained glass” dragon on the back!
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy oooh also really cool!
Brought your three books on kindle. Cannot wait to read them
My thanks, Simon, and my best wishes to you for the journey!
Seeing Butler and Bakker in the thumbnail, two absolutely genius and prose master writers in wildly different ways!
They are both brilliant, and you’re right about the difference in styles. Cheers!
Thanks - Im happy to grab 3 books with this reputation for $3
I appreciate your support!
I’ve heard people say pel was kept alive because alabasta was coming out around the time of 9/11 however I’m not sure how true that really is
I loved this storyline when it was first published. This is when The Sandman started to really hit it's stride for me. The Sandman spin off Lucifer series written by Mike Carey is also worth checking out if after you finish The Sandman series are left wanting more.
I didn’t know about the Lucifer spinoff series - thank you, Andrew!
Im so happy for your sales on the Edan trilogy and also for reading Enies Lobby, one of the best arcs in the entire series which I really hope you will enjoy even more than Water 7 ! :)
So far, Enies Lobby is everything I was hoping for and more. I’m excited to finish! Cheers!
please finish catching up on your own time one peice is a beautiful anime
Cheers!
Make this a playlist so I can watch them in order
Already done! The playlist is called “One Piece,” and there are a couple group chats before my solo videos. Thank you for watching!
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy Thanks I appreciate it
@@MrPrezey7 My pleasure!
I would have loved to have known your content when I started One Piece (about 4 years ago) it would have given me an incredible insight into how characters react or how a story is formed, glad to have found your channel
